Nationwide property claims: documentation the desk adjuster can approve
Whether you're the contractor writing the estimate or the homeowner living with the damage, a Nationwide claim moves on paperwork. Here is how Nationwide says its process works, taken from its own site, and how we prepare estimates and supplements for it.

Filing and tracking a Nationwide home claim
How claims are filed
- Online: log in to the Nationwide account to file an auto, property or watercraft claim; have name, address, telephone number, policy number, the type of property damage (wind, water, fire, theft, etc.) and a description of the damage ready. A claim can be started without all the information and follow-up details sent later. [source]
- By phone at 1-800-421-3535, or by contacting a Nationwide agent. [source]
Claims phone: 1-800-421-3535 (Nationwide Claims phone number; also used to file a property claim) [source]
Tracking and sending documents
Claims tracker: log in to see the property claim's status at any time, including estimates and repairs or payment summaries. [source]
Photos and documents can be uploaded, or the claims associate contacted, at any time after the claim has been submitted (via the logged-in claims status page). [source]
Send your estimate or supplement through the channel Nationwide names above, and keep the upload confirmation with the claim file.
What Nationwide publishes about contractors and additional damage
On Your Side Property Repair Network
For storm repairs, Nationwide says the policyholder can select a contractor or roofer from its On Your Side Property Repair Network or is free to find their own contractor, and to contact the claims associate for additional information. [source]
Network membership is Nationwide's decision, not ours. Our estimates and supplements are prepared for any contractor on the claim, in or out of the network.
Additional damage and supplements
Nationwide's public site does not describe a supplement submission process. In practice the supplement goes to the assigned claim handler through the same document channel as the claim; we write it so the handler can approve it line by line.
Inspection: after a hail claim is filed, an assigned claims associate reviews the policy and helps schedule an inspection if needed. Some claims may be settled over the phone; otherwise a claims associate may inspect the property and estimate the repair cost. Nationwide asks that permanent, major repairs not start until the policyholder has spoken with the claims associate. [source]
Payment: once property damages have been estimated and reviewed with the policyholder, Nationwide issues payment to the policyholder and/or the contractor, for the estimate amount minus the deductible; a mortgage company may be included on the payment. Direct deposit can be set up by telling the claims associate and choosing Claim Payment Options under the homeowners, condo or renters policy in the online account. [source]
Water damage: after a claim is filed, Nationwide may dispatch a professional water damage clean-up service; it asks the policyholder to keep the failed component, photograph damage, list damaged items with purchase date, value and receipts, and not discard damaged items before speaking with the claims associate. Once the claim is verified, Nationwide arranges payment for clean-up and restoration services. [source]
Catastrophe response: Nationwide's Catastrophe Response Units (CRUs) are described as a central location for customers to speak with the Claims team and ask questions about the claims process after a disaster; claims can be filed through the Claims Center or at 1-800-421-3535. [source]

Negotiation add-on

We prepare documentation for the contractor or the homeowner, never for the insurer. We do not give coverage, claim-value or legal advice, and we do not represent policyholders.
