Chubb property claims: documentation the desk adjuster can approve

Whether you're the contractor writing the estimate or the homeowner living with the damage, a Chubb claim moves on paperwork. Here is how Chubb says its process works, taken from its own site, and how we prepare estimates and supplements for it.

Tracking and sending documents

The Personal Risk Services (PRS) Client Portal shows claim status online, including a dynamic claim life cycle that shows the current phase the claim is in, plus claim history, adjuster information, payment history and a document library. [source]

Using the claim number, documents are uploaded to the claim directly through Chubb's online Upload Claims Documents application; for mail or fax, Chubb says to contact the adjuster for the mailing address and fax number and to include the claim number on every document sent. [source]

Send your estimate or supplement through the channel Chubb names above, and keep the upload confirmation with the claim file.

What Chubb publishes about contractors and additional damage

Chubb Trusted Service Network

Chubb describes a network of experienced professionals in loss mitigation, home construction and restoration, auto body repair and other services; policyholders have access to it and may qualify for priority service, and the choice between a network provider and their own provider is always theirs. A search for a Trusted Service Provider starts by calling 1-800-CLAIMS-0. On its personal claims page Chubb adds that network providers give a 3-year guarantee on all repair work, that for water or fire damage it can arrange for a trusted service provider to respond to help minimize damages and prepare the premises before repairs begin, and that it can refer the policyholder to a Chubb-approved preferred vendor where available. [source]

Network membership is Chubb's decision, not ours. Our estimates and supplements are prepared for any contractor on the claim, in or out of the network.

Additional damage and supplements

Chubb says that whether the policyholder uses their own contractor or one of Chubb's, it reviews the estimate and comes to an agreed price with the contractor; if the policyholder has concerns about the estimate at any time, Chubb works with the contractor on it, and it handles changes to the initial scope of work or contractor costs the same way. Chubb seeks to reach an agreed scope and price with the contractor, and its payments are issued to the policyholder. [source]

The policyholder may be asked to obtain a repair estimate from a local contractor; if an onsite inspection is needed, Chubb coordinates a convenient time, and if help is needed getting an estimate Chubb can arrange for one of its preferred contractor resources to provide one. [source]

Chubb describes a digital inspection experience that often does not require a Chubb adjuster onsite; when an onsite inspection is needed, local adjusters coordinate with the policyholder to schedule a visit. [source]

Virtual Damage Assessments let the policyholder use a cell phone or iPad to take photos for a damage estimate and create a 3D diagram of the impacted area that imports into the adjusters' estimating software; drone aerial imagery is used for roof inspections and to show property details when the site cannot be safely reached. [source]

Payment: because the mortgagee has a financial interest in the property, it is included as a payee on larger claims involving building damage (Chubb suggests contacting the mortgagee before payment is issued to learn its endorsement requirements); payments for personal property or non-building damage are paid by separate check directly to the policyholder. [source]

If the damage makes the home uninhabitable or there is extensive damage to belongings, Chubb says it can provide payment in advance for temporary living expenses, clothing and other immediate needs. [source]

Chubb asks the policyholder to talk to the examiner before discarding damaged items; once Chubb has inspected the property or received documentation that the items are non-repairable they can typically be discarded, and in some cases Chubb may want the damaged items for salvage. [source]

Catastrophe response: Chubb's virtual catastrophe claim response uses virtual damage assessments, satellite and drone aerial imagery for roof inspections, a Catastrophe Center for pre- and post-event guidance, and storm and event tracking that maps insured locations relative to weather events. [source]

The local Chubb agent has online access to the claim and receives automated updates throughout the process. [source]

Depending on the circumstances, payments can be received by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT/ACH direct deposit). [source]

A dedicated Catastrophe Team monitors events and coordinates planning and resource deployment for the response. [source]

We prepare documentation for the contractor or the homeowner, never for the insurer. We do not give coverage, claim-value or legal advice, and we do not represent policyholders.
